The band cited "unforeseen scheduling changes" as their reason for pulling the plug on the show, leaving organisers without a headlining act for the 31 July (09) concert.
But the Night Shift Grammy winners have agreed to return to the festival after a 13-year break from the event.
The concert could mark a reunion with former frontman Lionel Richie, who turns 60 on Saturday (20Jun09) - the Hello singer has been talking about a Commodores get together.
Richie insists the original line-up of the soul supergroup will reunite before the end of the year.
He recently said, "Before the end of the year, for sure, you'll hear a rumble. I think now might be the proper time (to do this)."
Richie quit the band in the early 1980s and embarked on a very successful solo career, but the group continues to this day with Walter Orange as frontman.
