Coppola cast Brando in two of his most famous roles as mafia boss Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather and Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now.

And the Oscar-winning director insists Brando's reputation as a difficult diva was unfair.

Coppola says, "Marlon was never hard to work with. His behaviour was a little eccentric on the set. He was like a bad boy and did what he wanted. But as an actor he was never hard to work with."
