The Everwood star proposed to the actress late last year (08) - but insists he was desperate to ask for her hand in marriage following their initial introduction.

He tells People.com, "I knew I wanted to marry her pretty soon (after I met her).

"It took a while for me to admit it, because it would be crazy to be like, 'I want to marry you' the first day I met her. But I could have!"

And the 29-year-old and his fiancee have decided to elope on a romantic holiday - to avoid having to throw a huge wedding for family and friends.

He adds: "We're going to defy convention and not plan anything big. We're just going to go on vacation and come back married."
