Sly Stone at George Clinton's birthday celebration at Zune, Los Angeles, California - 22.07.08

Reclusive Stone was at the gig to support his daughter Novena's band Baby Stone, but took to the stage when fire marshals threatened to shut the concert down to fix a venue water damage problem.

Stone invited pal Clinton to join him for a rendition of I Want To Take You Higher, and kept revellers in high spirits with Sly & The Family Stone hit Stand. Clinton then took over and performed his classic We Want The Funk with Novena's band.

One lucky gig-goer tells WENN, "It was absolutely amazing. People were just standing around with stunned looks on their faces. No one could believe what they were seeing and hearing."
