Berry watched Bobby Katz and his wife cope with the stress of cancer, while the medic guided the actress through her pregnancy with baby Nahla.

She tells InStyle, "Watching them go through their struggle made me respect the resilience of those who are suffering."

It spurred the star to take part in the 15th annual Entertainment Industry Run/Walk for Women in Los Angeles in May (08) - and she has vowed to take Nahla along next year (09).

She adds, "I want to keep my daughter healthy, and, being a mom, I want to stay healthy."
