Legendary crime writer DOMINICK DUNNE added drama to the proceedings of the O.J. SIMPSON armed robbery and kidnapping trial in Nevada on Monday (22Sep08) when he was taken ill in court.

The 82-year-old was covering the trial in the Clark County Court when he sparked a medical emergency after complaining of severe pain.

Dunne, who is fighting bladder cancer, prompted court officials to call paramedics, who escorted the writer to Valley Hospital in Las Vegas.

Dunne reportedly travelled to Las Vegas to cover the trial for Vanity Fair magazine against doctor's orders. He has told friends and colleagues that the Simpson trial coverage will be his last.

Last week (ends20Sep08), sports memorabilia collector Bruce Fromong, who is the trial's chief witness, was taken ill during cross-examination on opening day.

Fromong needed medical assistance during proceedings on Monday (15Sep08) when he developed chest pains and became light-headed during a tense and emotional day in court. But he was back in the Clark County Courthouse on Tuesday (16Sep08).

Fromong, 54, was the victim of Simpson's alleged hotel room raid a year ago (Sep07).

Simpson maintains he and five associates entered Fromong's Las Vegas hotel room to recover stolen goods that belonged to the former sports star. The trial continues.
