Keys was born Alicia Augello-Cook and wanted a catchier name for herself, when she saw the word 'wild' in a dictionary.

But her mum had other ideas.

Keys tells American magazine Newsweek, "She said, 'It sounds like you're a stripper.'"

So the singer decided to name herself Alicia Keys instead.

She explains, "It's like the piano keys. And it can open so many doors."
