LORD OF THE RINGS star VIGGO MORTENSEN was so moved when his son HENRY wrote his first initial 'H' on his right wrist, he had it tattooed on his skin as a permanent reminder of a magical moment.

The movie star recalls his then-young son scribbling the letter 'H' "everywhere" and was touched when the kid started using dad's skin as a canvas.

He says, "When he was little and he first started to write, he wanted to write Hs everywhere, all over my arms... It was either that or the wall, so I said, 'Go ahead.'

"One day he put one right there and it was beautiful and I thought it would be a nice memory to have... I went right down to a tattoo parlour on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles and had a guy tattoo over it."

Mortensen's son with ex-wife, Los Angeles punk icon Exene Cervenka, is now 19.
