Hazlewood, who found fame penning Sinatra's 1966 hit These Boots Are Made For Walkin', passed away in Las Vegas on Saturday (04Aug07), aged 78.

He later duetted with Sinatra on a string of songs including Some Velvet Morning and Sugar Town. However, despite rumours of a romantic attachment, he consistently maintained the pair were nothing more than good friends.

It was a sentiment Sinatra, 68, reiterated on Monday (06Aug07).

She said, "He was my friend and mentor. I always felt safe with him and I will miss him terribly."

Hazlewood is survived by his third wife and three children.
