The rocker's offspring has been in constant contact with the troubled star since she was released from California's Century Regional Detention Center last month (Jun07) after being jailed for violating her probation from a 2006 drink driving arrest.

She says, "I feel so sorry for Paris. What happened to her was so tough but she's getting better now. Jail is hard. I've been speaking to Paris a lot. She needs her friends right now. We're really close because we grew up together and I think it's important to make time to speak to people - even if it's just so say, 'How are you? Are you OK?'"

And while Stewart is going to great lengths to offer moral support to her pal, she believes Lindsay Lohan - who was arrested for DUI last week (ends29Jul07) for the second time in two months - is hanging out with too many "false friends".

She adds, "It's very sad what is happening to Lindsay. I think the problem is partly that there are too many hangers-on in L.A. and it's important to have real friends and people you can trust."
