John Carter Cash at the Book and cd signing at Borders for his new book "Anchored in Love-An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash". New York City, USA - 02.06.07
The couple's son John Carter Cash reveals in his memoirs, Anchored in Love, how his parents would often splash out on luxurious items, but insists they never forgot less fortunate people.
He writes, "I remember Mom spontaneously purchasing a purse at an upscale New York boutique...The store clerk smiled at (her) with a pretentious glare. 'That will be $12,000, Mrs Cash.' Mom didn't miss a beat. 'I'll be paying with American Express.'
"Panhandlers also hit the jackpot: "When a homeless lady asked her for money . . . Mom reached into her pocketbook and pulled out a $100 (GBP50) bill."
