CHAUFFEUR TELLS SPECTOR TRIAL HE FLED IN FEAR
LATEST: PHIL SPECTOR's former chauffeur has testified he ran away in fear after seeing his boss holding a gun and the body of actress Lana Clarkson slumped inside the music producer's home.

Brazilian Adriano De Souza yesterday (16May07) told Spector's Los Angeles Superior Court murder trial that he was terrified his employer might shoot him.

De Souza's testimony came a day after he told the hearing how he was sitting outside Spector's Alhambra, California mansion when he heard a loud "pow" before Spector emerged from a side entrance, holding a gun and covered in blood. De Souza claimed Spector then said, "I think I killed somebody."

Yesterday, De Souza told the jury when he saw Clarkson's body slumped in a chair with her legs close to the floor, he asked Spector what happened and that he responded with a shrug.

De Souza said, "I didn't know what to do. I tried to escape from that place... I was afraid he could shoot me."

The driver said he started to run, before jumping in the car and driving outside the home's gate, where he dialled Spector's secretary - to get the property's exact address - and then 911.

The jury, who earlier saw photographs of Clarkson's body at the scene of the crime, was then played a tape of De Souza telling an emergency operator, "I think my boss killed somebody."

When asked by the operator why he thought that, De Souza added, "Because he has a lady on the floor and he has a gun in his hand."

Spector has pleaded not guilty to shooting Clarkson dead at his home on 3 February 2003 and claims she committed suicide.

The trial continues.
