Garry Marshall asked producer James G. Robinson to reprimand the star as a last resort - Robinson's letter, in which he blasted Lohan as "irresponsible and unprofessional", was subsequently leaked online.

But Marshall has no regrets about his decision.

He says, "Once somebody walks on my set, it's my problem, but we can't go chasing them. This film is low-budget. We can't lose days.

"Tough love is a part of this business - she missed a day on the second week of shooting."
