A rich fan of the TV series has hiked up the price on the car, which Schneider drove as Bo Duke in the cult TV series.

The actor bought the famous orange car when the show ended in the mid-1980s and used it in his new movie John Schneider's Collier + Co - Hot Pursuit.

He decided to auction off the car to help him fund a sequel - but he had no idea the motor would become such a prized item on eBay.

A spokesman for the actor says, "As of 3pm yesterday, the bidding jumped past the $2.7 million mark. These are valid bids.

"The auction doesn't even end until 10 pm Pacific Standard Time on May 4th."
