The instrument has featured on most of U2's albums and has been the guitarist's favourite axe on the road - but The Edge feels it's time to let it go.
The Les Paul will now be a top item at an upcoming memorabilia auction benefiting Music Rising, a charity the guitarist co-founded to replace musical equipment destroyed by the 2005 hurricane tragedy.
He tells the Associated Press, "I wanted to give something really significant that would really mean a lot for me to give. It deserved something that I would miss."
The Icons Of Music auction, to take place at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York next month (12APR07), will also feature a saxophone signed by former US President BILL CLINTON and an original recording contract signed by ELVIS PRESLEY.
