Pete Townshend of The Who live in Concert at Madison Square Garden. New York City, USA - 18.09.06
The MY GENERATION star, 61, slammed contemporaries including BOB DYLAN and THE ROLLING STONES for their longevity as rock stars.
But a humbled Townshend now writes on his website, "I said I wouldn't go and see Dylan play live. Oh God, I'm having a crack at Dylan again.
"I think when I do interviews I must imagine being drunk and shout my mouth off for old time's sake. But why do I pick on the folks I love the most? Or is it jealousy?
"I can speak for all of us when I say, 'Pete - shut up and play as well as you can. At your best, you can't lick these guys' boots.'"
