SIR HOWARD STRINGER, the chairman of the AFI Board of Trustees, made the announcement yesterday (20OCT06), confirming the award will be presented to Pacino at a gala tribute in Los Angeles on 7 June (07).

A thrilled Pacino says, "I am moved and honoured to be considered for such a prestigious award."

Past AFI tributes have honoured MERYL STREEP, STAR WARS creator GEORGE LUCAS, SEAN CONNERY and ROBERT DE NIRO.
