Sara Evans at the JC Penny Jam Concert for America's Kids Press Conference. Los Angeles, California - 13.06.06
On Thursday (12OCT06), Evans's representative released a surprise statement saying the singer had decided to leave the popular reality show "to give her family her full attention at this difficult time," but did not elaborate on the details surrounding her shocking departure.
Evans filed divorce papers the same day she left the competition in Williamson County, Tennessee, where she cites adultery as the grounds for divorce, along with irreconcilable differences and inappropriate martial conduct.
The couple married in 1993 and have three children ranging in age from two to seven.
The star also requested, and was granted, a temporary restraining order against Schelske and is seeking custody of their children.
In the papers, obtained by US TV show ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, Evans alleges that Schelske has been storing personal ads looking for sex from an online website on his personal computer.
She also states that he "maintains many pornographic photographs" of himself, along with photographs showing him having sex with other women.
The star also alleges verbal abuse, harassment, excessive consumption of alcohol and adultery.
Evans will address her departure to Dancing With The Stars fans on the 17 October (06) live telecast, which will likely be her final appearance on the show.
US network ABC has not revealed how Evans departure will affect the competition or future broadcasts.
Evans lawyer tells Entertainment Tonight, "Under the circumstances, Sara had no other choice (but to file for divorce)."
