In a letter published on Thursday (12OCT06) in the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, where he has been a film critic since 1967, Ebert says he's looking forward to returning to work early next year (07).

He plans to do occasional reviews until he makes a full recovery after reviewing THE QUEEN yesterday (13OCT06).

The 64-year-old wrote, "One thing I've discovered is that I love my job more than I thought I did, and I love my wife even more."

Ebert had surgery on 16 June (06) to remove a cancerous growth on his salivary gland, and he also had emergency surgery on 1 July (06) to repair a burst blood vessel.

He is now recovering at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in Illinois.
