The US funnyman praised Army General SIR RICHARD DANNATT's recent comments after he claimed British troops should withdraw from Iraq "soon".

He says, "I understand that your top military man has asked for a pull-out. I find that to be an unusual and quite an amazing story.

"The idea of going into Iraq, going into a sovereign country, the ethics of (GEORGE W) BUSH doing that is outrageous. I hope it comes to an end but I think we have already gone over the top.

"What's taken place over the last two years, what Al-Qaeda did to our country, what happened afterwards, going into Iraq, it's hideous to see the photos of American soldiers doing hideous things to prisoners of war. I think it is the time (to speak out).

"I can't believe the reality of the situation we're in today."
