GALLSTONES FORCE CLAPTON OUT OF HALL OF FAME GIG

ERIC CLAPTON has been forced to pull out of a star-studded line-up at the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert to undergo a 'minor medical procedure' to combat gallstones.

Eric Clapton performs at The Royal Albert Hall in Kensington. London, England - 22.05.09

The legendary musician was slated to appear alongside a host of greats, including Stevie Wonder, U2 and Aretha Franklin, at the anniversary gig at New York's Madison Square Garden on Thursday and Friday (29-30Oct09).

But Clapton is taking time off to have gallstones removed, and he's told fans he won't return to the stage until 2010.

A statement on the star's website reads, "Unfortunately Eric Clapton has cancelled his performance for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert next week to undergo a minor medical procedure for gallstones. He will spend time recuperating at home in the U.K. and is very sorry to disappoint the fans and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He remains committed to his 2010 concert schedule."

Organisers of the event have promised to find a suitable replacement for Clapton.
