HISTORIANS URGE BOLLYWOOD FILMMAKERS TO CREATE OWN INDIAN SUMMER

Indian historians are urging the country's top filmmakers to take advantage of problems surrounding CATE BLANCHETT's new movie - and make their own version of the scandalous events that led up to the nation's independence.

Indian Summer, in which the Aussie actress portrays Lady Edwina Mountbatten - the wife of the last British viceroy of India - has been put on hold because of budgetary constraints.

And now history buffs want Bollywood directors to step forward and make a movie about the historic milestone.

Acclaimed statesman Rajan Zed tells WENN, "This is a golden chance for Bollywood to prove that it could produce a world class product with domestic talent, technology, and finances about a major turning point in India's history when the British handed over the power to India.

"With more familiarity, I'd expect Bollywood to do more justice with the topic."

Indian officials have already held up filming on the controversial film, insisting on a script check before allowing filming to start.

They wanted to make sure the depiction of an alleged romance between Lady Mountbatten and India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, played by Irrfan Khan was respectful.

The film bosses gave the project their OK earlier this month (Oct09).
