HOUSTON/BROWN MARRIAGE STARTED CRUMBLING AFTER PHONE FIGHT
The end of WHITNEY HOUSTON's marriage to BOBBY BROWN came after a birthday party she threw for the R&B star - when he spat at her and she attacked him with a telephone.

The couple split in September 2006 and divorced the following year (07), but Houston admits the marriage began to crumble when Brown's drinking became an issue years earlier.
In an exclusive TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, Houston recalled a fight she had with her ex, which marked the beginning of the end.
She says, "He cursed me all the way home in front of his parents and he spit on me... I was horrified. He spit on me, in my face... I was angry, very hurt.
"I called a friend, I said, 'Come and get me now...' I was almost two feet out the door... and he pushed me against the wall... and I took the phone and I hit him over the head with it and he fell out on the floor (sic).
"My daughter came down the stairs... (and cried) 'Daddy! Mom, what did (you do).' I said, 'I told him not to do it...' It was just one of those moments. It was just hateful, ugly."
The fight in the early 1990s led to big problems for the couple - Houston turned to hard drugs in an effort to block out the pain of her collapsing marriage, while Brown started cheating.
She adds, "I was like, 'You don't smell right, you don't look right, something's going on.' And then all this other stuff started coming out about him being with this one (woman) or that one or being too promiscuous, dragging dirt into my home. It disturbed me.
"I didn't look for it, but I checked."
And Brown was foolish enough to pay for his philandering with his wife's credit card. She jokes, "I had a problem with that."
She adds, "I started moving furniture out the house... I even asked him to leave and he said, 'No, you leave.' I said, 'It's my house!'"
