LADY GAGA MOST DOWNLOADED ARTIST IN U.K. CHART HISTORY

Pop sensation LADY GAGA has been crowned as Queen of the iPod age - she is the most downloaded artist in the history of Britain's official chart.

In the five years since downloads were counted towards sales figures in the U.K., the quirky dance star has seen two of her hits make the top five biggest sellers list.

Poker Face was the most downloaded track, with the star's debut Just Dance coming in third.

Kings of Leon were also one of the most successful acts in the chart - Sex on Fire was in second place, while follow-up Use Somebody came in fourth.

Leona Lewis also managed two of the top ten biggest downloads of the last five years, with Bleeding Love and her cover of Snow Patrol's Run.

Nickelback's Rockstar, La Roux's In For The Kill, and Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah also entered the best sellers list.

REGGAE PRODUCER JOHNSON DIES

BOB MARLEY's keyboardist WYCLIFFE 'STEELY' JOHNSON has died, aged 47.

Johnson, who was also an acclaimed Jamaican reggae producer, passed away at New York's Brookhaven Memorial Hospital on Tuesday (01Sep09) after suffering a heart attack.

As well as working as part of late legend Marley's backing band, Johnson helped produce hits for No Doubt and Sean Paul.

He helped pioneer a new era of dancehall music by introducing digital technology into the studio as part of producing duo Steely and Clevie.

In a tribute, Sean Paul says, "He taught Jamaica, the world and me in particular a lot about music, and helped to nurture dancehall music to a genre that kids still enjoy today. May his soul rest in peace, a great soldier of Reggae Music."

JAY-Z BEATS NEW PROTEGEES IN U.K. CHART BATTLE

JAY-Z has proved who's boss - he has beaten his newly signed act the SUGABABES to the top of the U.K. charts with comeback single RUN THIS TOWN.

The trio signed to the 99 Problems star's Roc Nation record label earlier this year (09) in a bid to crack America after several years as hitmakers in Europe.

And despite gaining an early lead on their boss in the mid-week charts, the girls' Get Sexy hit came second to Jay-Z's collaboration with Kanye West and Rihanna.

French DJ David Guetta's joint effort with Akon, Sexy B**ch, slips to number three, while Dizzee Rascal and Chrome's Holiday is at number four.

The Black Eyed Peas round out the top five in the U.K. singles chart.

BECKHAM UPSET AFTER MISSING OUT ON VOGUE COVER

VICTORIA BECKHAM is reportedly devastated after learning she won't be gracing the cover of U.S. fashion bible Vogue - because she has already posed for the publication's main competitor.

The former Spice Girl is keen to make her mark on the fashion industry, and is proving a hit following the release of her first clothes line - even managing to persuade supermodel Elle Macpherson to don her expensive dresses.

The star is still seeking the approval of the heavyweights at American Vogue, and has been on a strict diet while sticking to haute couture fashion in a bid to impress magazine bosses and land the chance of appearing on the cover, according to a new U.K. report.

But Beckham has reportedly been snubbed by magazine editor Anna Wintour - because she has appeared on rival fashion publication Elle's cover.

A source tells Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, "Victoria hoped to land the Vogue cover but it fell through weeks ago. She posed for Elle instead and now Vogue won't consider her for at least four months."

The style icon has already appeared on the cover of British and Russian Vogue.

BLIGE DISMISSES IDOL RUMOURS

MARY J. BLIGE has denied reports she's set to replace PAULA ABDUL as a permanent judge on reality TV competition AMERICAN IDOL.

The No More Drama hitmaker was booked as a guest panellist on the singing competition after Abdul's departure in August (09).

Idol producers have also roped in Victoria Beckham, Katy Perry, Shania Twain and Neil Patrick Harris to critique contestants alongside original judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi on the upcoming season.

However, Blige insists she's not considering taking a permanent seat on the show.

She tells the New York Daily News, "I'm not gonna be the next Paula Abdul. There was, maybe, three women that were incredible and three guys. The rest of it? A lot of it was like, "You can't be serious!"

SPECTOR'S WIFE INSISTS NEW JAIL IS DEATH ZONE

But wife Rachelle objected, claiming Pleasant Valley has a history of outbreaks of a potentially deadly disease, known as Valley Fever.

DOHERTY'S SUICIDE ATTEMPT

Troubled British rocker PETE DOHERTY considered killing himself on the night of his 30th birthday - he tried to throw himself from the roof of a hotel in France.

The Babyshambles frontman, who has struggled with drink and drug addiction, celebrated the landmark with a party in Paris, France on 12 March (09).

The singer admits hitting the landmark age felt depressing and he became suicidal after consuming a bottle of vodka.

He tells Elle magazine, "'I had this bash in Paris and it was an absolute disgrace. I just made a bit of an idiot out of myself. I don't even know exactly what happened but I ended up trying to throw myself off the top of the hotel. I wasn't happy at all about being 30.

"I went through a bottle of vodka. They presented me with this cake and I pushed it in the chef's face who'd just made it for me. Then the chef and the security guards were chasing me around. I think I escaped unscathed."

TIMBERLAKE & CIARA BANNED IN TURKEY

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and CIARA's new music video LOVE SEX MAGIC has been banned by authorities in Turkey amid fears the controversial music clip is too sexually explicit to air.

The pop sensations' video features a scantily clad Ciara licking Timberlake's ear as the two singers dancing closely together, and it's caused a fury among Turkish censors.

The mainly Muslim country's Radio and Television Supreme Council has now ordered all TV channels not to show the video.

According to Turkey's Milliyet newspaper, the council's decision arose because the clip "contains sexual outfits, dancing and scenes that are contrary to the development of children and youth and morality in general."

She tells the New York Daily News, "I'm still not ready. The older I get the more I have to talk about. It's gonna be a great book. They should wait until I'm really ready."

MILLER CONTEMPLATES U.S. MOVE

British actress SIENNA MILLER is pondering a permanent move to her birthland of New York as she prepares to make her Broadway debut in AFTER MISS JULIE.

She tells Gotham magazine, "I think you always have an affinity with the place where you were born... (I) love any excuse to be in New York. It's such an amazing, exciting vibrant place to be... I think I'm going to fall so in love with being in New York that I probably won't leave when we finish the play."

GUARD ACCUSED OF SHOVING SEYMOUR AVOIDS PROSECUTION

A security guard charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly shoving STEPHANIE SEYMOUR into a door at her Connecticut home has avoided prosecution after reaching a court agreement with the former supermodel.

Joseph Babnik, 50, from Carmel, New York, was arrested in June (09) following an altercation with Seymour at her home she shared with estranged husband Peter Brant.

Seymour filed for divorce from Brant in March (09) after nearly 14 years of marriage but the pair continued to live in separate quarters at their Connecticut country estate.

She alleged Babnik - a former New York City Police Department Detective - attempted to block her from entering the main house and pushed her into a screen door as she attempted to get away from him.

Brant is said to have been abroad when the incident occurred.

Babnik was charged with disorderly conduct and issued with a misdemeanour summons at the scene.

He denied the charge and accused Seymour, 39, of being the aggressor.

The charge against Babnik will be dismissed in 12-months if he is not arrested again, reports the New York Post.

HOLLYWOOD PRODUCER RUDIN TARGETTED IN NEW TELL-ALL

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN producer SCOTT RUDIN has been targeted in a new tell-all book exposing the Oscar-winner's infamous temper.

Hollywood screenwriter Paul Rudnick, who worked with Rudin on The Addams Family and The First Wives Club, blast his former collaborator in a collection of essays entitled I Shudder: And Other Reactions to Life, Death, and New Jersey.

In the tome, Rudnick recalls the producer's humiliating treatment of his employees, and insists his bad reputation is well-deserved.

He recalls an alleged incident when Rudin fired one impaired worker: "(An) assistant in the office was legally blind.

"When Scott would fire him, which was often, this assistant would stand patiently out on the sidewalk, waiting for the handicapped van, at a bus stop in full view of Scott's office window. Watching this... Scott would always relent and sent a lesser assistant out to rehire the blind one."

But the writer believes Rudin's no-nonsense attitude is all a facade - insisting he's always there when people really need his help.

He adds: "Scott is secretly and genuinely caring. When any of his friends, his employees, or their family members are in real trouble, when someone gets sick, or a parent dies, or a writer or an actor or a director falls on hard times, Scott shows up and, very quietly, he offers everything: money, doctors, transportation, and hope. If people ever found out about this side of Scott, his reputation would be ruined."

She tells People.com, "We were joking that it was Scott's man shower, like his version of a baby shower.

"Guys get excited too about having a baby, so they should do something too. One of our friends started calling it a man shower, but I was like, 'Guys don't have tea and open presents!' But for them, dinner and then going to a nightclub is a man shower. They thought it was funny.

"That was it. That's as far as guys will ever plan unless they need an excuse to go out! I had no desire to go. I was relaxing, chilling. If they want to go have a man shower in Miami, then go ahead."

The first 'Bruni scholars' from 30 high schools are set to be chosen next year (10).

However, Bruni's plans have already been criticised as a means for her husband to gain political mileage - and Robert Roger, the mayor of Bondy, which lies northeast of Paris, insists her motives are suspicious.

He says, "Sarkozy is using his starlet to soften his image. She will sprinkle a bit of glitter about, but it is not sufficient."
