JAY-Z BLASTS RAP'S BLACK CRITICS

Rap superstar JAY-Z has hit back at criticism from those who fear hip-hop degrades the African-American community, insisting they are simply using the topic for 'publicity purposes'.

The genre has come under fire from prominent black celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey and Bill Cosby, for its apparent misogyny and frequent use of the 'N' word in songs.

Cosby was so incensed by the language used in modern urban music, he released a hip-hop album that was "without the profanity, misogyny, violence and braggadocio".

But Jay-Z dismisses their comments as nothing more than a public relations exercise, insisting they are not considering that the topics in rap songs are serious issues for the artists producing them.

He says, "Put it like this; everything is birthed from somewhere real, right? These emotions and this anger and this angst in rap is coming from a real place.

"People in those circles try to dismiss it, buy you can't because it's part of culture. They only attack hip-hop because, and I hate to sound like a cynic, but this is all done for publicity purposes, right? You don't attack the real issue - you attack the thing that's popular."

WATTS IS STILL ROLLING WITH THE STONES

ROLLING STONES drummer CHARLIE WATTS has moved swiftly to dismiss rumours he's plotting to end his rock 'n' roll career and quit the band after 46 years.

A report about Watts' alleged departure on Australian website Undercover.com sent fans into a frenzy on Wednesday (02Sep09).

The site suggested the 68-year-old throat cancer survivor would no longer tour or record with the Stones, and the band was hoping to replace him in their line-up with New York drummer Charlie Drayton, who has played on solo projects with Keith Richards.

However, Watts is assuring fans he has no plans to leave the group.

His spokesperson says, "Contrary to a fabricated story that ran this morning on a small music website in Australia, drummer Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones."

CYRUS BLAMES WAL-MART FOR EARLY ALBUM RELEASE

MILEY CYRUS has blamed bosses at U.S. bargain store chain Wal-Mart for accidentally releasing her new album three days early - accusing them of mixing the CD up with her new clothing line.

The star's seven-track EP, The Time of Our Lives, failed to hit the top spot on the new Billboard U.S. album chart after it was released by mistake on Friday (28Aug09). The CD was scheduled for release on Tuesday (01Sep09).

Cyrus still managed to score sales of 62,000, taking her to number three on the new chart, released on Wednesday (02Sep09).

She has put the mishap down to executives at Wal-Mart, who signed an exclusive deal to market the album, because they accidentally stocked her music alongside her fashion line, which hit shelves on Friday.

But even though the teen star is disappointed, she has thanked the dedicated fans who rushed out to buy a copy.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "Kinda bummed. My E.P. got put on shelves wiff (sic) my clothing line and got released 3 days early on accident :( Thx 2 (sic) those who got the album :)"

LIL MAMA APOLOGISES FOR INSENSITIVE TRANSGENDER REMARKS

Rap newcomer LIL MAMA has offered gay rights groups a public apology after giving a transgender male a hard time on a recent episode of TV talent show AMERICA'S BEST DANCE CREW.

The hip-hop star, who was a judge on the programme, upset Leiomy Maldonado when she told him, "If you're going to become a woman, act like a lady."

Immediately ashamed by her comments, the teenage rapper, real name Niatia Jessica Kirkland, has written a letter to officials at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) hoping they'll forgive her.

She writes, "My remarks were never meant to be disrespectful regarding Leiomy's gender, nor offensive to the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community, which has been a community that has supported me in all my endeavours.

"However, in hindsight, I recognise that my words may have come across as hurtful. I spoke with her privately after the taping to express that it was not my intent to offend her or any member of the transgender community."

OSBOURNE PRAYS SHE DOESN'T GET INJURED ON DANCING SHOW

Recovering drug addict KELLY OSBOURNE is hoping she doesn't become a casualty as she rehearses for U.S. TV talent show DANCING WITH THE STARS - because she'll have to fight any injuries without painkillers.

No matter what she might break or fracture as she prepares for her dancing debut on the hit series, the pop star daughter of Ozzy Osbourne insists there's no way she can even consider taking medication.

She says, "I wouldn't do it because, for me, I've just opened a great big door that I can't close by myself (sic)."

Osbourne insists there are other ways to relieve the pain of rigorous daily dance work-outs: "(There's) Epsom salts and... I get a massage every week."

The show, which has a long history of injuries, has already claimed its first victim - American TV star Mark Dacascos has been diagnosed with a strained foot.

Last season singer Jewel pulled out of the programme before it aired after fracturing a tibia in rehearsals; and actor Gilles Marini is still recovering from a surgical procedure after separating his shoulder practising his dance moves.

JONES TEAMS UP WITH GREAT TRAIN ROBBER'S SON FOR BIGGS TRIBUTE

Former THE CLASH star MICK JONES has teamed up with the son of British blues legend JOHN MAYALL to record a new RONNIE BIGGS tribute celebrating the Great Train Robber's release from prison.

The duo originally recorded the track Ronnie Biggs with fellow train robber Bruce Reynolds' son Nick and actor Dudley Sutton as a protest to the way Biggs was being treated behind bars.

Reynolds, who also performs with Alabama 3, tells Mojo magazine, "The guy (Biggs) had a broken back and pneumonia."

Biggs was granted a pardon on "compassionate grounds" on his 80th birthday (07Aug09).

MOORE WANTS A BABY WITH KUTCHER

DEMI MOORE is planning to have another baby at the age of 46 - she wants to expand her family with husband ASHTON KUTCHER.

She tells France's Marie Claire magazine, "Why not? Everything is possible! We have so much to live for, and obviously one of them is to have a child. I'm very enthusiastic about all the possibilities that living together gives us.

"I'm an incurable optimist and a go-getter - it's in my nature to focus much more on what makes me happy than what makes me nervous."

And Moore is convinced her 31-year-old husband, who revelled in becoming a stepfather to her daughters, is really ready for a baby.

She adds, "Ashton is very responsible, and he was comfortable from the very beginning with the family responsibilities he had to take on. Most men aged 25 would not have been able to deal with it. I don't judge them, but I think Ashton is far more ahead of his time."

TWILIGHT hunk ROBERT PATTINSON has opened up about his struggle with fame and obsessed fans, revealing the constant 'paranoia' he feels as he tries to escape the spotlight is wrecking his life.

The 23-year-old Brit was thrust into the limelight when he was cast as Edward Cullen in the hit vampire movie franchise and he suddenly found himself targeted by hoards of screaming teenage girls.

Pattinson now can't go anywhere without being tailed by groups of photographers and over-excited devotees - and he was recently hit by a taxi in New York as he attempted to escape.

The star admits he is struggling to cope with his strange new life.

He tells Premiere magazine, "I haven't found one place in the world yet where I could disappear. Even the most remote places I can imagine, someone will ask me for a picture with them or an autograph. Honestly, I didn't think that I would be recognised so easily.

"The most embarrassing is when friends ask you to meet up with them and you have to tell them, 'Sorry I can't go to that place' because you're fully aware photographers will be waiting for you there. I feel like such a weasel when things like that happen - like the world has to revolve around me.

"I was in a restaurant during a break, and when I came out two hours later, 500 people were waiting for me at the exit. It was total chaos. But I'm sure that if I'd said to one of those girls, 'Come on, let's go have breakfast,' she would have been totally embarrassed and would never scream my name again."

Pattinson also fears fame is making him paranoid.

He adds, "I have to look over my shoulder all the time, be super vigilant because, at any moment, someone could be filming or recording what I'm saying."

A parole board in Chowchilla, California met on Wednesday (02Sep09) to consider a request by Manson Family member Susan Atkins to leave jail.

Atkins, 61, played a central role in the slayings of Tate and others in a two-night rampage in the Los Angeles area in 1969. She is stricken with brain cancer and wants to live out what is left of her life as a free woman.

Tate's family and the relatives of the other victims of the cult, led by Charles Manson, are expected to testify against her release.

Atkins has served 37 years behind bars - longer than any other woman prisoner in California.

Doctors insist the murderer has just months to live.

Downey Jr. has been linked to the project for over a year, but production has been delayed because studio bosses have yet to appoint a filmmaker to helm the movie.

Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer will serve as producers on the film, about an enemy spaceship which crashes in the middle of Arizona.

She says, "If it's nudity just because they want you to get naked in a movie, then I'm kind of like, 'You know what? No.' But if it's kind of pivotal, and it helps move the story along, then yeah, sure I'll do it."

SYLVESTER STALLONE fans will have to wait another four months to see his all-star action movie THE EXPENDABLES - the film's release date has been pushed back to next summer (10).

Mary, who just knows she's found her soul mate, decides to do anything and go anywhere to be with him. She begins to pursue Steve relentlessly as he crisscrosses the country, covering breaking news stories.
Mary's escalating infatuation with Steve is encouraged by the self-serving actions of news reporter Hartman Hughes (Thomas Haden Church), who enjoys torturing his insolent cameraman at every opportunity. With Mary never far behind and Hartman urging her on, Steve becomes increasingly unhinged.
But when Mary becomes embroiled in the news story of the year, Steve and Hartman begin to see her differently. Hartman is plagued by guilt, knowing his game of one-upmanship with Steve has placed her squarely in harms way, while Steve is feeling his own pangs of remorse at his callous behavior. Despite the media storm surrounding her, Mary with her upbeat, unaffected manner brings together a small community of new friends. And all who encounter Mary will realize that sometimes the ones who don't fit in are the ones who really stand out.

Synopsis: To the outside eye, Joel Reynold (Jason Bateman) seems to have everything. After all, being the owner of a business he built from the ground up - with its patented brand of culinary extracts - should make the 'Extract King' a happy man.
However, if Joel hasn't reached his front door by 8 o'clock, he'll find his wife, Suzie (Kristen Wiig) cinching up her sweatpants' and about as interested in him as he is in her mastery of supermarket coupon design. Sexually frustrated, Joel confides in his best pal, Dean (Ben Affleck), a barkeep and soon finds himself wrapped up in a convoluted scheme to make Suzie cheat on him first with a dim-witted gigolo (Dustin Milligan) thereby allowing him to pursue beautiful new employee Cindy (Mila Kunis) with a clear conscience. Unbeknownst to Joel, the object of his affections is a con artist/sociopath - just one step away from having her parole revoked.
Meanwhile, Joel and his second-in-command, Brian (J.K. Simmons) have entered negotiations for a buyout of Reynold Extracts by General Mills. All they need to do is keep things tidy, quiet and moving while waiting for the final offer. Of course, this fails to take into account the employees on the factory floor: Step (Clifton Collins, Jr.), a machismo-ridden doofus and self-proclaimed 'fastest sorter' with lofty aspirations of rising to Floor Manager; Rory (T.J. Miller), a goth-rock geek who spends more time passing out flyers for his band than shuffling extract bottles; and Mary (Beth Grant), a fanny-packed, bitter slouch at the end of the assembly line who'd rather fold her arms and shake her head than keep life at Reynold moving along which is exactly what she's doing when a bottleneck occurs on the line, resulting in a chain of accidents that cost poor Step a portion of his manhood.
Seeing a big payday, the con-artist temp woos the otherwise-loyal Step, convincing him to sue for millions, engaging bus bench lawyer Joe Adler (KISS' Gene Simmons) to 'fight for his rights' regardless of the fact that doing so will cost Joel the factory.
With his dry wit and remarkable ear for character and dialogue, Mike Judge brings his trademark 'flavor' to these seemingly disparate threads, tying them together into an antic comedy about life in the middle.
