CURRINGTON RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL

Country star BILLY CURRINGTON has been been released from hospital after he was hit by debris from a stage collapse at a country music festival in Canada.

The singer was performing the last song of his set at the Big Valley Jamboree country festival in Alberta on Saturday (01Aug09) when high winds tore down the stage he was on.

Currington and a member of his band were taken to hospital after the accident, which claimed the life of one person and left more than 80 injured.

The singer was treated for a minor concussion and has since been released from doctor's care to recover at his Nashville, Tennessee home, while his bass player Alex Stevens is still receiving treatment after undergoing surgery on his arm to repair a severed artery.

Currington, who is currently at the top of the U.S. Billboard Country Songs chart with People Are Crazy, has sent his condolences to the family of Donna Moore, the tragic fan who lost her life.

In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "The boys and I are very grateful to be home and for life itself. We thank you for your prayers and concern and will see you on the road again soon.

"My heart goes out to the family of Donna Moore who was killed and all of the other fans who were hurt on Saturday."

The final day of the four-day festival was scrapped on Sunday (02Aug09) as a mark of respect to Moore.
