JA RULE POSTPONES AUSTRALIAN TOUR

Rapper JA RULE has been forced to postpone a concert in Australia after he ran into problems obtaining a work visa.

The New York-based star was due to head Down Under for a gig in Melbourne on 25 August (09).

But the show has now been pushed back to 29 August (09) after immigration authorities failed to issue his work permit in time.

Representatives for the hip-hop star admit the gig has been pushed back "due to visa processing," according to Allhiphop.com.

The country's border authorities are notoriously strict when it comes to allowing entertainers with criminal records to perform in Australia.

Ja Rule - real name Jeffrey Atkins - was arrested and charged with weapons violations in 2007, when police stopped him and discovered a loaded semi-automatic weapon in his car. He was previously in trouble with the law in 2005 when he pleaded guilty to punching a fan in Toronto, Canada.

Other stars to have been hit with problems trying to enter Australia include Snoop Dogg, who was banned from the country until 2008 because he failed authorities' 'Character Test'. Coolio was also forced to cancel his Australian tour earlier this year (09) after he was hit by drug possession charges.
