JACKSON HONOURED FOR HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS

MICHAEL JACKSON was the toast of the Save the World Awards in Austria on Friday evening (24Jul09) when stars gathered to pay tribute to the King of Pop's humanitarian efforts.

The ceremony honoured individuals and organisations which have made considerable contributions to make the planet more sustainable for future generations.

Award organisers named the 2009 event Heal the World, after Jackson's song of the same name, and his brother Jermaine Jackson was on hand to receive a posthumous prize on the late superstar's behalf.

The Thriller hitmaker was recognised for his "many social and humanitarian engagements, but also... his incredible musical legacy".

Jermaine also took to the stage to perform Smile, the same tune he sang at his sibling's Los Angeles memorial on 7 July (09).

Other celebrities present at the event include former U.S. athlete Carl Lewis and actress Andie MacDowell, who hosted the evening.
