LATIFAH: 'RAP IS BORING WITHOUT FEMALES'

Female rap pioneer QUEEN LATIFAH is calling on women to grab the mic and start rhyming - insisting hip-hop has become a 'boring' male-dominated industry.

Latifah has returned to her rap roots after completing her first album in over a decade.

But she's noticed a shift in the male-driven genre, and is urging females to get back into the rap game because the music is all starting to sound the same.

She says, "Now (rap) is probably the least populated with females since I started. I don't know what it is, I think it's a myriad of things but I think definitely we need to look out for each other. Radio needs to give us that space, video needs to give us that space, because you can't have rap music without female rappers. There has to be a balance. There has to be an answer to some of this. It can't all be male-dominated, it gets boring."
