CONGRESSMAN IN THE FIRING LINE AFTER TAKING AIM AT JACKSON

A U.S. Congressman has come under fire for publicly attacking MICHAEL JACKSON in a rant about the media coverage of the King of Pop's death.

Peter King agreed to be interviewed by a CNN reporter outside a Wantagh, New York British Legion event at the weekend (04Jul09), and when he was asked for his random thoughts about Jackson's death, he held nothing back.

The Long Island Congressman raged, "This low-life, Michael Jackson... is all over the newspaper, television, radio... Let's knock out the psychobabble. He was a pervert, a child molester, he was a paedophile. And to be giving this much coverage to him, day in and day out, what does it say about us as a country?"

"I just think we're too politically correct. No one wants to stand up and say, 'We don't need Michael Jackson...' He died, he had some talent. Fine. There's people dying every day."

The outspoken Republican's comments lit up cyberspace when the video of his rage was posted online on Monday (06Jul09).

The Jackson family has refused "to dignify King's statement" with a comment.
