MICHAEL JACKSON was so worried about his looming comeback tour he often forgot to eat, according to the show's promoter.
Michael Jackson speaking at the press conference and tour announcement held at the O2 Arena.
London, England - 05.03.09
The King Of Pop was booked to do 50 gigs at London's O2 arena, kicking off later this month (Jul09) and running into next year (10), and was in vigorous rehearsals for the spectacular shows before his death last week (25Jun09).
The show's director Kenny Ortega and AEG Live's boss Randy Phillips were keeping an eye on the star's food intake in the days leading up to his death - and they were shocked by how little Jackson was eating as he geared up for the mammoth run of gigs.
Phillips tells Britain's Daily Mirror, 'He used to forget to eat because he was so focused and Kenny Ortega and I used to cut up his food and physically feed him.'
But Phillips is adamant Jackson was fighting fit - despite his erratic eating habits.
He adds, 'Frail, he certainly wasn't. He was always very thin but not to the point where he couldn't perform. He really kicked into high gear and was totally engaged in the last two weeks. Before that he was nervous and not really coming to rehearsals. But that was his schedule and that was how he wanted to do things.
"Michael did not have a gruelling schedule - he had Michael's schedule. He didn't need to rehearse that much. He was so talented that he didn't need to. When he started dancing, he was dancing better than the best 20 year old dancers in the world. He was that good.'

Paying tribute to Jackson earlier this week (beg29Jun09), Manilow, who performed a medley of the pop superstar's hits onstage at the American Music Awards in 1984 - as the King of Pop sat in the front row - said, "He will go down as one of history's greatest entertainers. The promoter of MICHAEL JACKSON's comeback tour has slammed reports the star threatened to cancel his entire run when he discovered he was to perform 50 gigs - insisting the King Of Pop was delighted to stage so many shows.
Michael Jackson speaking at the press conference and tour announcement held at the O2 Arena.
London, England - 05.03.09
The singer announced in March (09) he would be performing 10 gigs at London's O2 Arena in July (09) and within days an extra 40 concerts were added due to phenomenal demand.
Reports earlier this week (beg29Jun09) claimed Jackson was angry when he found out he had to put on 50 shows - and threatened to completely pull the plug on his This Is It residency.
But the boss of the show's promoter AEG Live, Randy Phillips, has dismissed the claims - insisting the star was ecstatic his run of shows were set to be a record breaker.
He tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "We were always going to put on 10 shows first. Neither Michael nor I knew how the public were going to react. But the pre-sales went mad and I remember picking up the phone to his manager and saying whether we could add more London shows because the demand was so great.
'He got off the phone, asked Michael and called me back and said 'yes'. Michael then called me and said, 'Randy how long am I going to stay in London?' And I said: 'Long enough to qualify for a British passport.'
'And his biggest concern was not that he was doing 50 shows but that the Guinness Book of Records knew that he was going to break the all-time record.'

Legendary music producer QUINCY JONES has reiterated his plans to steer clear of pal MICHAEL JACKSON's funeral - because he doesn't want to see nine million people mourning the loss of the King of Pop.
Quincy Jones at ASCAP Pop Awards at the Kodak Grand Ballroom. Los Angeles, California - 22.04.09
Jones initially stated he feared he wouldn't be able to handle the grief of bidding farewell to his friend, who he has called "my little brother"..
He said, "I won't go to any more funerals as long as I live. I can't handle it."
But now he tells Details magazine he simply doesn't want to be part of a massive crowd.
Jones, who was the brains behind the King Of Pop's biggest hit albums, Thriller, Off The Wall and BAD, says, "It's going to be, like, nine million people there, and it's not what I want to see."
A date and location for Jackson's funeral have not been determined.
A planned public viewing of his body, which was to take place at the pop star's former Neverland Ranch home in Santa Barbara, California on Friday (03Jul09) has reportedly been scrapped.

RYAN O'NEAL and his son REDMOND broke down in tears at FARRAH FAWCETT's funeral, after final letters from the CHARLIE'S ANGELS star were read out during the service.
Ryan O'Neal and pallbearers attends the funeral service for actress Farrah Fawcett at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Los Angeles, California - 30.06.09
Fawcett's longterm partner Ryan and her 24 year old son were pallbearers, and both gave readings at the emotional ceremony on Tuesday (30Jun09).
But it was two letters the actress had penned before her death last week (25Jun09) that most moved her family members to tears.
A friend of Fawcett, who died of anal cancer, read out a letter to Ryan, which addressed the ups and downs of their on/off 30-year relationship.
The message read, "When I figure out what it is all about, I can tell you."
And a letter for Fawcett's troubled son Redmond - who was granted a three-hour release from jail, where he's serving time on drug charges, to attend the funeral - was equally as moving.
It said, "The greatest gift of my life was to be your mother. By leaving you behind I hope you will be able to work out all your troubles and grow as a person."
Fawcett had also written a piece to tell her 90-year-old father, James, how much she loved him: "You gave me life and you were the greatest dad around."
As well as Ryan and Redmond O'Neal's readings during the ceremony, Fawcett's longtime pal Alana Stewart and her doctor Lawrence Piro paid tribute with self-prepared eulogies.

MICHAEL JACKSON's death has inspired rapper MASE to end his extended hiatus and stage a comeback.
Mase at NRJ Music Awards Ceremony Cannes 2006. Cannes, France - 21.01.06
In a recent radio interview, the former Diddy protege, whose real name is Mason Durrell Betha, has sparked his return to the limelight by releasing a remix of Drake's hit Best I Ever Had. It's his first release in five years.
Mase explains the Jackson tragedy gave him the impetus to hit the studio again: "Mike passed away and it just lit the fire in me - it made me go in the studio and do something. I'm excited.
"I asked my nephew, 'Who is the hottest thing out there?' and he said, 'Drake!' When I listened to his music I said, 'I'm going to jump on this joint.'
"I've got things up my sleeves, I just need someone to play them."
The radio chat also ended Mase's on/off feud with fellow rapper Jim Jones, who was mentioned among the artists the reclusive star admired.
His respect prompted Jones to call into Power 105.1 to speak with his former nemesis.
Jones apologised "for anything I ever did when I was younger," and added, "I tip my hat to you. This is monumental and it's nothing but love."
Mase announced he was retiring from music in 1999 to "follow God" but he returned in 2004 with the Bad Boy Records album Welcome Back. Very little has been released since then.

Veteran actor KIRK DOUGLAS has paid tribute to his longtime friend KARL MALDEN, who passed away on Wednesday (01Jul09) - insisting no one knew him as well as the Oscar winner.
Michael Douglas, Karl Malden and Kirk Douglas at the Monte Cristo Awards presented at a luncheon by the Eugene O'Neill Theatre to Karl Malden held at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Beverly Hills, California - 11.11.04
Douglas and Malden met as youngsters at college and struck up a firm friendship which lasted for over 70 years.
The movie legend was delighted when his son Michael was cast alongside Malden in TV cop drama The Streets of San Francisco in the early 1970s, because he felt the youngster's career would benefit greatly from working with such an established actor.
And now the Douglas family are in mourning for their great friend.
In a post on his MySpace.com blog, Douglas writes, "Nobody knew me as long as Karl Malden knew me. I first met him when I worked with him doing summer stock (theatre) during college vacation.
"Karl and (his wife) Mona are great people; we started a friendship that continued for 70 years.
"I learned a lot from Karl and so did my son Michael. When he got the part in the TV series Streets of San Francisco I said to my son, 'You are lucky. You will learn a lot from Karl.' And he did. Karl took Michael under his wing and they had a fantastic relationship for four years, which continued to this day."

RYAN O'NEAL's estranged son GRIFFIN was banned from attending FARRAH FAWCETT's funeral on Tuesday (30Jun09) - because he's 'a bad guy'.
Ryan O'Neal attends the funeral service for actress Farrah Fawcett at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Los Angeles, California - 30.06.09
Redmond, the actor's 24-year-old son by Fawcett, gave a reading during the ceremony at Los Angeles' Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels after he was granted a three-hour release from jail, where he's serving time on drug charges - but his half-brother was not welcome.
Speaking to U.S. news show Extra outside the funeral, Griffin O'Neal, 44, insisted Fawcett would have been upset he wasn't able to bid farewell to his father's longtime companion.
He said, "She's mad I'm not in there."
Speaking hours after the service, Paper Moon star O'Neal confirmed he refused to allow his son to attend the funeral, adding, "He's a bad guy."
Father and son have been estranged since the beginning of 2007 following a fight at the family home, which ended with Ryan firing off a shotgun into the stairwell. Reformed drug addict Griffin's 22-year-old pregnant girlfriend, JoAnne Berry, was injured during the fight.
Ryan O'Neal claimed his son grazed him "four or five times" with a fireplace poker, and that when he ducked to avoid the swinging weapon, Griffin "hit his own girlfriend in the head."

A judge has permanently banned a follow-up to THE CATCHER IN THE RYE from hitting book stores in the U.S. - after previously ruling the tome is 'substantially similar' to J.D. SALINGER's classic novel.
The reclusive writer is suing Swedish author Frederik Colting over his book 60 Years Later: Coming Through The Rye, claiming the follow-up is "a rip-off" of his influential 1951 novel.
Colting claimed his work, which features a character based on Salinger's famous antihero Holden Caulfield, is a literary commentary rather than a sequel.
Judge Deborah Batts issued a 10-day restraining order against the title last month (Jun09) - and now she has ruled against the publication of 60 Years Later.
In court on Wednesday (01Jul09) she dismissed Colting's claim that he wrote the new book to critically examine Salinger's most famous character, calling the new book and his argument "problematic and lacking in credibility".
The book was scheduled to be published across the U.S. later this summer (09).

PUBLIC ENEMIES
Cast: Billy Crudup, Channing Tatum, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Leelee Sobieski, Marion Cotillard
Synopsis: In the action-thriller Public Enemies, acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the story of legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger (Depp), the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover's fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public.
No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone, from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression.
But while the adventures of Dillinger's gang later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi) thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw's capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, 'the dashing Clark Gable of the FBI.'
However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals from the infamous 'Lady in Red' to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.
