The movie, which tells the tale of 16th century Mughal emperor Akbar and his romance with Hindu princess Jodhaa, landed a clutch of awards including Best Picture, Best Director for Ashutosh Gowariker and Best Actor for Hrithik Roshan.

Jodhaa Akbar also triumphed in categories for best song lyrics, best music direction for Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, and best male playback singer - which honours performers who record soundtracks for on-screen actors.

The movie's lead actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan failed to secure the coveted Best Actress award, but was instead named Best Actress Of The Decade and handed the prize for Outstanding Achievement In International Cinema.

Former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra, landed the Best Actress honour for her role in Fashion at the ceremony, which took place in Macau, southern China on Saturday night (13Jun09).
