MCCLARNON WANTS TO HELP COUPLES START FAMILIES

British pop star LIZ MCCLARNON wants to offer her eggs to infertile couples after a recent health scare left her fearing she would never have children of her own.

The former Atomic Kitten was forced to undergo emergency surgery in April (09) after doctors' tests suggested she had suffered an ectopic pregnancy, when an embryo begins to develop outside the womb.

The star was devastated after medics warned her she could possibly lose a fallopian tube in the operation, which would reduce her chances of ever conceiving.

Surgeons then discovered her abdominal pain was actually caused by her fallopian tubes being stuck together, a condition they were able to fix while she was under the knife.

The star was relieved to learn she was still able to become a mother - but the sobering experience has made her want to help heartbroken couples unable to start their own families.

She says, "Having thought even briefly that I might never be able to have my own children made me realise what agony that would be, and made me want to help people in that situation...

"I thought about what might have happened to me, and about friends who are trying to conceive with IVF (in vitro fertilisation) and having no luck.

"I know I will need counselling before I go through with it, as all donors do, and I need to consider it a bit more, but I'm really up for it."
