BROOKE SHIELDS' SKIN CANCER SCARE
Actress BROOKE SHIELDS has vowed to smother herself and her kids in sunscreen this summer, after a recent skin cancer scare reminded her of the dangers of the sun's rays.

The actress admits she was a sun worshipper as a teen and regularly slapped on baby oil and used tinfoil to enhance her tan.
She tells People.com, "I used to think it was the best thing in the world to be baking in the sun. All my girlfriends and I would go up on the roof in New York; we didn't have to be at the beach."
Shields claims she stopped actively tanning some years ago, and was stunned when a recent visit to the doctor turned grim.
She adds, "I had a spot on my face. The doctor scraped it, and it turned out to be precancerous. I was scared."
The 43-year-old star insists she learned a hard lesson learn from her lucky escape: "You think that because you're not in the sun anymore, it's all in the past, and then something like that crops up and you're made aware of how dangerous it really can be."
