DIRECTOR ELLIOTT STUNNED BY HIDDEN TREASURE

EASY VIRTUE director STEPHAN ELLIOTT uncovered a treasure trove of shocking historical memorabilia while shooting the period comedy in rural England - the owner of one of the stately homes he used as a location has a secret stash of priceless Hitler and Marie Antoinette items.

The Aussie has sworn never to reveal which of the historic homes houses the odd collection - and the items are so well protected he doubts even a fire could destroy them.

He says, "There was one place where we filmed - this old ruined stately home - and the owner was very clear that we couldn't go near this particular room. He'd tell us over and over again.

"As we were wrapping up, he thanked me for not being curious and then asked if I'd like to have a look in his 'secret room'. It had a steel door and the room was sealed like a bank."

Once inside, the Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of The Desert auteur was left speechless by his host's collection of odd keepsakes.

Elliott adds, "This guy had Hitler's ink blotter and various belongings of Marie Antoinette, the real deal - and they were all housed in this sealed safe room. It was amazing."
