DEPECHE MODE SCRAP GIG AFTER GAHAN FALLS ILL

British electro-pop pioneers DEPECHE MODE were forced to scrap a gig in Athens, Greece on Tuesday (12May09) after frontman DAVID GAHAN was taken ill just before showtime.

Gahan was struck down with a bout of stomach flu gastroenteritis while preparing for the show in his dressing room. He is currently under the care of medics in a nearby clinic, according to reports.

A concert organiser addressed the 30,000-strong crowd at the city's Terra Vibe park, telling them, "We regret today's performance has to be cancelled... David Gahan fell ill in his dressing room."

It is a blow to the band's global Tour of The Universe trek, which kicked-off in Israel on Sunday (10May09).

The group are hoping to reschedule their Athens concert for Wednesday (13May09) if Gahan is well enough to perform.
