REDMOND O'NEAL DETERMINED TO GET CLEAN FOR AILING MOTHER

FARRAH FAWCETT's troubled son REDMOND O'NEAL has been given one last chance to kick his drug habit in a rehab recovery programme.

The 24 year old, whose father is actor Ryan O'Neal, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday morning (17Apr09) in relation to his September (08) arrest, when he was busted at his dad's Malibu, California home and charged with felony drug possession.

Redmond, who had previously insisted he was not guilty, changed his plea on Friday to no contest.

Judge Scott Millington transferred the case to another court, which would allow Redmond to seek professional help in beating his ongoing addiction to illegal substances, and set sentencing for 30 April (09).

During the hearing, embattled Redmond expressed his disappointment in his actions, and credited his mother's ailing health - as she battles anal cancer - for giving him the motivation to get clean.

Speaking in a barely audible voice, he told the court, "I want to be there for my mother. She weighs about 86 pounds. I'm upset with myself. My timing sucks."

Millington acknowledged his remorse but warned Redmond he would be sent to jail if he failed to succeed in what would be his fourth attempt at rehab.

The judge said, "Understand if I see you in that seat again, it's not going to be pretty."

Redmond is also facing other charges of probation violation stemming from his June 2008 conviction for driving under the influence (DUI), as well as other drug counts relating to his 5 April (09) arrest while visiting an incarcerated pal at a California detention centre.

Neither Fawcett nor Redmond's father attended the court hearing.
