DIRECTOR BANS YOUNGSTERS FROM HIS OWN MOVIE

Film censors have been forced to reclassify horror movie WISHBABY - after the director complained it was too violent for young teenagers.

Officials at the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) had originally given the movie - which features sexual violence, torture and black magic - a 15 rating, meaning it could be viewed by anyone aged 15 or over.

But director Stephen Parsons was so concerned of the effect the slasher movie could have on impressionable teenagers, he urged censors to ban under-18s from viewing it.

And BBFC bosses agreed to up the film's rating ahead of its release on DVD next month (May09).

Parsons says, "I deliberately set out to make a horror film for an adult audience. When I was told it had been given a 15 certificate I was disturbed, not least because one of the scenes, which involved a character being filmed as he was tortured and the footage being sent around via mobile phones, could have incited copycats."
