AVALON FELL ILL BEFORE IDOL APPEARANCE
Crooner FRANKIE AVALON needed medical attention backstage before his surprise performance on U.S. TV talent contest AMERICAN IDOL on Wednesday (08Apr09) after a sugary snack left him shaking.
The 69-year-old singer was 20 minutes away from performing live when he suddenly felt ill and the show's medics were called to check him over.
He reveals, "I ate a whole bag of red candies and all of a sudden... I start to get the shakes.
"They (medics) checked my blood pressure and asked me questions... Everything was fine, I went on (and) did the show."
