Music executive ALAN W. LIVINGSTON, who signed the Beatles during his tenure as president of Capitol Records, has died. He was 91.
Livingston passed away on Friday (13Mar09) of age-related causes in his Beverly Hills home, according to his stepdaughter Jennifer Lerner.
He began his career as a writer and producer of children's read-along albums for Capitol Records and came up with the Bozo the Clown character for the 1946 album "Bozo at the Circus".
Livingston moved into executive positions at Capitol Records in the early 1950s and signed Frank Sinatra to the label.
He left the company in the late 1950s to work in television but returned as president in the 1960s, when he signed the Beach Boys, before bringing The Beatles to prominence in the U.S.
Livingston is survived by his wife, Nancy Olson, a son, daughter, and two step-daughters.
