JOHNSON GETS 'TOUGH' FOR SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE

Tough guy DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON showed off his song and dance skills on Saturday night (08Mar09) as the host of U.S. comedy show SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.

The former wrestler opened the show by addressing suggestions Hollywood had softened him, and then broke into a glitzy cabaret routine to poke fun at himself.

At one point, dancers ripped off his suit to reveal Johnson's ripped and tattooed arms and chest, covered only by a waistcoat.

He performed a Chicago-style routine before introducing his "choreographer-slash-roommate" Lee, played by SNL regular Fred Armisen, who stepped up to Johnson, pounded on his chest and yelled, "You brute, you brute".

Later in the show, Johnson became President Barack Obama's angry, "stronger and more impulsive" alter-ego, The Rock Obama, for a skit in which the beefed-up U.S. leader dispensed opposing senators by throwing them out of an Oval Office window.

He also played a bitter Hawaiian hotel performer abusing American tourists and poked fun at basketball wildman Dennis Rodman.

Justin Timberlake also made an unscripted appearance on the show as the husband of a less-than-attractive cartoon character forced to confront Who Framed Roger Rabbit's sexy Jessica Rabbit, played by his real-life girlfriend Jessica Biel.
