DISNEY BOSSES BRUSH OFF JONAS BROTHERS' MOVIE CRITICS

Disney bosses have brushed off critics of THE JONAS BROTHERS' big screen debut after the film took home millions of dollars less than its projected earnings at the U.S. box office.

The trio claimed the second spot on the chart at the weekend (27Feb09/01Mar09) with three-day sales totalling $12.7 million (£9 million), falling only behind Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail.

But movie critics have scoffed at the band's big screen debut, which was predicted the to earn as much as $25 million (£17.7 million), far less than Disney's hugely popular concert film Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds, which earned $31.1 million (£22 million) last year (08) in its opening weekend.

Disney distribution president Chuck Viane insists studio executives are pleased with the Jonas' debut, blaming lower figures on the limited number of 3D theatre auditoriums which can hold an average of only 240 people.

Viane says attendance was "very, very good."
