M.I.A.'S FIANCE WAS TIMING CONTRACTIONS AT THE GRAMMYS

Pregnant singer/rapper M.I.A.'s nervous fiance took a stopwatch to the Grammy Awards on Sunday (08Feb09) - so he could time his wife-to-be's contractions.

The Paper Planes hitmaker, who was due to give birth on Sunday, had an ambulance on standby - just in case - and partner Benjamin Brewer was in the wings to make sure M.I.A. didn't go into labour backstage.

Speaking after her performance with rappers Jay-Z, Kanye West and T.I. at the Grammys, the brave mum-to-be said, "The contractions come and go. My fiance's got the stopwatch going."

But, at press time, there was still no baby news from M.I.A.'s publicist Jennie Boddy.

Last week (ends06Feb09), M.I.A. was sure her baby would arrive late. She said, "They say that you're often late the first time."
