The CRAMPS frontman LUX INTERIOR has died at the age of 52.
The Can Your Pussy Do The Dog singer passed away on Wednesday (04Feb09) at a hospital in Glendale, California.
Details of his death were not clear as WENN went to press, but the goth-rock icon had a longstanding heart condition.
Lux Interior, real name Erick Purkhiser, formed The Cramps with his wife Poison Ivy in 1976. The group became a cult New York punk act and were regulars at city music meccas CBGB's and Max's Kansas City, before they were signed to a record deal by music mogul Miles Copeland.
Interior and his act hit the headlines In June 1978 when they performed a free concert for patients at the California State Mental Hospital in Napa - the show was later released as a live album, Live at Napa State Mental Hospital.
The Cramps went on to release 14 albums, including Smell of Female, A Date With Elvis, Bad Music For Bad People and Stay Sick.
The band's line-up changed several times - but always featured Lux and his wife.
They appeared on a Beverly Hills, 90210 Halloween episode in 1995, and one of their shattered drum kits is on display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
