American Olympic gold medallist hurdler and sprinter GLENN DAVIS has died, aged 74.
Davis, who won three Olympic golds at the 1956 and 1960 games for the 400-meter hurdle, died on Wednesday (28Jan09) in Barberton, Ohio.
His death was announced by Ohio State University, where he participated in track and field; no cause of death was given.
Setting world records in the 200- and 400-meter hurdles, the 400-yard hurdles and the 440-yard run, Davis received the prestigious Sullivan Award as the country?s leading amateur athlete in 1958.
He later played American football as a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions in 1960 and 1961, and when his athletic career ended, Davis began a career coaching track, including a stint at New York state's Cornell University.
He is survived by his wife, Delores, his sons, Glenn Jr. and Timothy, his daughter, Jennifer Davis, two sisters, Evelyn and Lucy, six grandchildren and a great-grandson.
