BLACK LIPS CANCEL INDIA TOUR

Rockers BLACK LIPS have been forced to cut short their tour of India following a run-in with police over their raunchy onstage antics.

The band were half-way through a seven-date tour on the country when troubled erupted at their gig in Chennai on Friday (23Jan09).

Guitarist Cole Alexander is said to have infuriated promoters by stripping off and jumping into the crowd, before proceeding to get back on stage and kiss other band members, according to Indiecision.com.

The behaviour left promotion company executives fuming, prompting them to inform police and cancel the rest of the tour - forcing the startled band to flee.

A statement from the group reads, "They (the promoters) tried to get security to restrain us until the Tamil police arrived. We locked the door while they were kicking and banging on it. Meanwhile, we slipped out the other emergency exit."

The band claim they were then forced to drive ten hours to the next town but faced yet more problems.

They add, "When we got to the next hotel a mysterious man and someone who worked for our Indian booking agency tried to run off with our passports. That's when our VBS.tv documentarian Rob went postal (got angry) on them. We surrounded them until they gave back our passports. After that we booked the first flight to Berlin.

"For future reference, we really enjoyed the people of India and we hope western rock bands will be able to tour there in the future."
