BEYONCE, BLIGE + CAREY STUN AT OBAMA BALL

MARIAH CAREY, MARY J. BLIGE and BEYONCE wowed Washington, D.C. on Tuesday night (20Jan09) at the first presidential Inaugural Ball open to the public.

The Neighborhood Ball celebration was kicked off by will.i.am and featured a string of top stars from the worlds of pop, rock, country, R+B and hip-hop.

Stevie Wonder led a celebrity-studded jam of Signed, Sealed, Delivered, while Carey dedicated her Hero hit to the new U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle before the couple arrived to share their first dance as America's First Couple.

Introduced by actor Denzel Washington, who got the pre-inauguration festivities off to a proud start at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday (18Jan09), the Obamas danced to Ella James' At Last, as performed live by Beyonce, who struggled to fight back proud tears towards the end of the standard.

Cameras caught Blige and actress Kerry Washington in floods of tears as they watched the Obamas enjoying their first dance as President and First Lady, but actor/singer Jamie Foxx was more impressed by Obama's moves: "You can tell that's a black president from the way he was moving."

The ball was co-hosted by Foxx, Queen Latifah, Vanessa Williams and Leonardo DiCaprio, who jetted back from the London premiere of Revolutionary Road to be a part of the festivities.

And Carey's husband, Nick Cannon, got one step closer to his dream of becoming the official White House DJ by spinning the discs at the bash. Introducing his wife, Cannon cooed, "Y'all make some noise for my hero, Mariah Carey."

Other performers included rapper Jay-Z, Shakira and Alicia Keys, who wowed the crowd with a rendition of her hit No One.

But the highlight came at the end of the party when Wonder and Sting teamed up for a rendition of the British rocker's Brand New Day.

The Neighborhood Ball was the first of 10 the President and his wife are expected to attend.
