WOMACK THRILLED WITH HALL OF FAME HONOUR BUT MISSES COOKE

BOBBY WOMACK's Rock + Roll Hall of Fame induction news is bittersweet for the soul legend - because he can't celebrate the honour with late pal SAM COOKE.

The singer learned he would be among the Hall of Fame class of 2009 on Wednesday morning (14Jan09) and couldn't be more thrilled, but he really wanted to be able to call singer/songwriter Cooke.

He says, "My very first thought was, 'I wish I could call Sam Cooke and share this moment with him.'"

And the fact the announcement of his induction news comes just days before America's first black President takes office makes it all the more special for Womack.

He adds, "This is just about as exciting to me as being able to see Barack Obama become the first black President of the United States of America! It proves that, if you're blessed to be able to wait on what's important to you, a lot of things will change in life."

Womack will attend the induction ceremony on 4 April (09) in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, where the Hall of Fame is situated: "I haven't been home in almost 30 years, so having this happen in my hometown is really icing on the cake. I'm looking forward to going home."
