CHA CHA SLIDE hitmaker DJ CASPER is taking legal action against songwriter JEROME HAYWOOD and the bosses of M.O.B. Records in a dispute over royalties.
The DJ, real name Willie Perry, scored number one hits in the U.S. and U.K. with the catchy song when it was released in 2003. It was most recently used by fast food giants McDonalds for a 2007 U.S. commercial.
But Perry claims he has yet to receive money owed to him under the terms of an exclusive licensing agreement he signed with M.O.B. Records in 2000.
He filed suit against Haywood and M.O.B. Records on 31 December (08), accusing the two parties of cheating him out of earnings from copyright and publishing rights.
The legal papers state: "Royalties were never paid and (the) Plaintiff (DJ Casper) never received any accounting statements despite demands, and even as the song became very popular and, on information and belief, Defendant M.O.B. sold over 500,000 copies."
According to AllHipHop.com, DJ Casper goes on to accuse Haywood and M.O.B. Records bosses of filing their own separate copyrights in a bid to cash in on the hit song, even though Casper had reportedly secured the rights for the track years before.
