BAGHEAD
Cast: Elise Muller, Greta Gerwig, Jett Garner, Ross Partridge, Steve Zissis
Synopsis: While the Duplass Brothers were shooting their last feature film The Puffy Chair, a crew member raised the question “what’s the scariest thing you can think of?” Someone immediately said “a guy with a bag on his head staring into your window.” Some agreed, but some thought it was downright ridiculous and, if anything, funny (but definitely not scary). Thus, BAGHEAD was born, an attempt to take the absurdly low-concept idea of a “guy with a bag on his head” and make a funny, truthful, endearing film that, maybe, just maybe, was a little bit scary, too.
AN AMERICAN CAROL
Cast: Dennis Hopper, James Woods, Jon Voight, Kelsey Grammer, Leslie Nielsen
Synopsis: The American spirit is celebrated in the outrageous and totally irreverent comedy An American Carol from David Zucker, the master of movie satire (Airplane!, The Naked Gun, Scary Movie 3 and 4).
In An American Carol, a cynical, Anti-American “Hollywood” filmmaker sets out on a crusade to abolish the 4th of July holiday. He is visited by three spirits who take him on a hilarious journey in an attempt to show him the true meaning of America.
SURFER, DUDE
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Alexie Gilmore, K.D. Aubert, Scott Glenn, Willie Nelson
Synopsis: Longboarding soul-surfer Steve Addington (Matthew McConaughey) returns to Malibu for the summer to find his cool hometown vibe corrupted. New sponsorship demands Addington to expand into Virtual Reality Video Games and Reality TV. Unwilling to participate in this new digital-reality, he chooses to spend his summer surfing his home break. But in a twist-of- fate, the waves go flat and stay flat. Out of money, his expense-accounts canceled, and betrayed by his buddies, Addington is backed into a harsh corner. He must endure the insanity that comes with no waves or give into “the Man” and his new, reality-altering machines.
Aided by his manager (Woody Harrelson), his mentor (Scott Glenn), his guardian-angel (Willie Nelson) and his summer lover (Alexie Gilmore), Addington has a chance of keeping his cool, but it’s not going to be easy. The dude needs a wave, and there’s never been a drought like this.
TOWELHEAD
Cast: Aaron Eckhart, Maria Bello, Toni Collette, Peter Macdissi, Summer Bishil
Synopsis: Jasira wants something she can't define; attention, love, acceptance or a normal life. Unfortunately she doesn't know the right way to find it. When Jasira's mother exiles her to Houston to live with her strict, quick-to-anger Lebanese father, she quickly learns what aspects of herself to suppress in front of him. In private, however, she conducts her sexual awakening with all the false confidence that pop culture and her neighbor's magazines have provided. The result is a funny, dark, bold and harrowing look at the confusion and misguided exploration of youth in America's track houses, public schools and suburban wastelands.
Based on the critically acclaimed novel by Alicia Erian and written for the screen and directed by Alan Ball TOWELHEAD stars Aaron Eckhart, Toni Collette, Maria Bello, Peter Macdissi, and newcomer Summer Bishil as Jasira.
